Meditation and the Art of Japanese Gardening

Zen Center and Japanese Garden

Sunday October 10, 2010
10:30-11:30 am

Have you ever wondered how mindfulness meditation can help you appreciate nature more fully? Japanese gardens, which are works of art, arise from a state of mindful reflection. Such a garden exists at the Zen Life & Meditation Center, located in Oak Park.

Zen Master, Robert Althouse will give a talk on how mindfulness meditation helped him create the garden and how meditation can help you enjoy nature as well. He’ll give you a tour of the Japanese Garden and talk about the qualities that arise from living a Zen-inspired life of openness, empathy and clarity. Looking at the long-term view and patient observation of nature are the basis for developing this kind of beautiful garden. People who have visited this Zen Center say it is an oasis amidst the urban environment that is Chicago.
